MEMORIAL HEALTH FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES $1.1 MILLION DONATION

Larry Hawn, chairman of the Foundation board, announced the gift January 26 at the Memorial Health System’s annual meeting.

“The impact this gift has on the Foundation at this critical point in our growth is enormous,” Hawn said, “It is the second largest single gift in our Foundation’s history.”

The gift was left by Dorothy and Eugene Chidester. Lynn Richardson, legal representative for the couple’s estate commented, “Mr. and Mrs. Chidester were hard-working, modest people.  At their passing they chose to demonstrate their commitment to the future well-being of their community by a generous bequest to the Memorial Health Foundation.”

The gift will be used according to the Chidester’s wishes, and under the direction of MHF trustees, to advance the mission of both Marietta Memorial and Selby General Hospitals.

“This is a historical day for us and this extraordinary gift is a great step forward for health care philanthropy in the Mid-Ohio Valley. It is a reminder to everyone the powerful role local giving plays in the future of our community,” said Wendy Brewer, executive director of the Memorial Health Foundation. “The magnitude of Chidester’s generosity will be felt for generations.”

A ceremony to celebrate the gift and honor the memory of Dorothy and Eugene Chidester will be held this spring.
