The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) Foundation has awarded a $20,522 grant to the Oral Health Excellence Collaborative (OHEC) serving Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

This was one of six grants the Foundation awarded to organizations throughout Massachusetts to improve the oral health of residents of the Commonwealth.  The Oral Health Excellence Collaborative will use the funding to increase the hours of the program coordinator in order to serve more low-income elders.

“Access to affordable dental care for seniors on Cape Cod and the Islands presents a great challenge,” says BL Hathaway, Coordinator of the Oral Health Excellence Collaborative. “With the MDS support for OHEC, we expect that Cape Cod Dentists Care, our reduced-fee program in partnership with the Cape Cod District Dental Society, will serve 250 low-income seniors in 2012. OHEC also plans to engage with Councils on Aging and outreach staff working with elders to identify those in need of dental care and link them with services.”

If you are a senior or know a senior in need of access to affordable dental care in the area, contact OHEC at (508) 771-1375.
