NEW HAMPSHIRE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION AWARDS MORE THAN $8.7 MILLION IN FIRST QUARTER

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has given about 1,200 awards totaling more than $8.7 million in the first quarter of 2012.

The foundation says most of the awards came from funds established to benefit specific nonprofits or specialized grant programs, such as the Wellborn program for environment, ecology and place-based education in the Upper Valley. Others were directed through donor advised funds to support the arts, education, and other programs. Students received more than $1 million in aid.

After the government, the foundation is the largest grantmaker to nonprofits in the state. It serves communities through New Hampshire, southeastern Maine and eastern Vermont.
